ABOUT
About this spot
Okayama Castle was built in 1597 (Keicho 2) by Ukita Hideie and is a historic symbol of Okayama. It has a rare irregular pentagonal keep base, and its exterior with black-lacquered plank cladding is so beautiful that it is also called "U-jo" (Crow Castle). The 2022 renewal transformed the interior into exhibits that make learning history fun. In addition to introducing history from the Warring States to the Edo period, there are touches throughout for families and friends to enjoy, such as video content set in Okayama Castle and an experience corner where you can dress up as the lord of the castle and take photos. From the top floor you can take in the whole of Okayama city, and the splendid contrast with the neighboring Korakuen, one of Japan's Three Great Gardens, is also a must-see. In the evening, the seasonal illumination event "Ujo Togenkyo" is held, making it a popular date spot enveloped in a fantastical atmosphere. It is recommended for history fans as well as solo travelers and day trips on days off.
