ABOUT
About this spot
Okayama Korakuen is a beautiful daimyo garden said to rank among "Japan's Three Great Gardens," alongside Kairakuen in Mito and Kenrokuen in Kanazawa. Built in the early Edo period by Ikeda Tsunamasa, lord of the Okayama domain, it retains much of its original look even after about 300 years. The grounds, with wide lawns, ponds, artificial hills, and tea houses, are designed as a "strolling-style" garden where the scenery changes with each step, offering picture-perfect views wherever you look. The view that borrows the scenery of the neighboring Okayama Castle is particularly spectacular. Another attraction is enjoying the faces of the seasons: cherry blossoms in spring, lotus in summer, autumn foliage, and plum blossoms in winter. During the special night opening "Genso Teien (Fantasy Garden)," you can stroll the illuminated garden in its fantastical glow. It is perfect for a leisurely walk with family, a trip with history-loving friends, or time alone quietly facing yourself. Why not enjoy matcha at a tea house in the garden, forget the bustle of daily life, and spend a luxurious moment?
