ABOUT
About this spot
Lake Tazawa in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture, is a scenic spot that boasts Japan's greatest depth at 423.4 meters. Because it is so deep, its surface never freezes even in midwinter, and under the sunlight the water shifts from emerald green to deep sapphire blue from moment to moment, drawing visitors into a mysterious world. The golden Tatsuko statue, the symbol of the lakeshore, is a popular spot tied to the legend of a woman who was transformed into a dragon in her wish for eternal beauty. Nearby Gozaishi Shrine is known as a power spot for beauty, making it a great choice for a girls' trip. For active travelers, cycling around the lake or taking a sightseeing cruise is ideal. Seasonal activities abound, including canoeing and SUP in summer and skiing at nearby ski resorts in winter. The area is also home to famous hot springs such as Nyuto Onsenkyo and Tamagawa Onsen, so soaking in a hot spring after sightseeing is a luxurious way to refresh.
