ABOUT
About this spot
Nogeyama Zoo (Yokohama City Nogeyama Zoo) sits inside Nogeyama Park in Nishi Ward, Yokohama. Covering about 3.3 hectares, it keeps many animals, and admission is free. It is within walking distance of Sakuragicho and Hinodecho stations, so it is easy to combine with a stroll through central Yokohama. It opened on April 1, 1951 as Nogeyama Amusement Park. When the amusement park closed in 1964, the animal facilities continued as a free zoo. It was run directly by the city until March 2008, and since April 2008 it has been managed by the Yokohama Midori no Kyokai foundation. You can see Reticulated giraffes, chimpanzees, red pandas and Humboldt penguins. The temperature-controlled reptile house is home to crocodilians and tortoises. The former polar bear house now displays a life-size bear model, and a preserved Yokohama City Tram 1500-series car is on display. Hours are 9:30 to 16:30, with last entry at 16:00. It is closed on Mondays except in May and October. The zoo is scheduled to close for renovation from January 7, 2027, and reopening is expected in 2029 (date not yet set). Please check the official website before visiting.
