ABOUT
About this spot
About 1,000 km south of Tokyo, the Ogasawara Islands, whose plants and animals evolved uniquely because the islands were never connected to a continent, were registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2011. Reached by a 24-hour boat trip, the islands offer overwhelming nature that makes you forget everyday life. The biggest charm is the deep, vivid blue sea known as "Bonin Blue." Moving encounters with marine life await, including dolphin swimming with wild dolphins, diving, and humpback whale watching from winter to spring. On land, there are adventurous experiences galore, such as trekking to Heart Rock (Chihiro Iwa), a natural planetarium-like starry sky at night, and searching for the glowing mushroom "Green Pepe." A casual weekend trip is not possible, but that makes the sense of liberation upon stepping onto the island and the interaction with the warm islanders all the more special. It is the ultimate domestic resort to visit once in your life, ideal for friends, families, and solo trips of self-reflection.
