ABOUT
About this spot
Edo Castle, which once flourished as the center of the Tokugawa shogunate, is now open to the public as the "Imperial Palace East Gardens." Scattered across the vast grounds are precious remains that convey the look of the Edo period to this day, including the surviving Fujimi Turret and Tamon Turret, and the stone walls of the keep foundation, which boast an impressive scale. It is one of Japan's 100 Famous Castles that history fans will love, but its charm is not only history. Cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall are beautiful, and tranquil, rich nature spreads out that you would never expect in the city center. The carefully tended Japanese garden and spacious lawn plaza are ideal for strolling with friends or refreshing alone. Admission is free. The moment you pass through huge castle gates such as the Otemon and Hirakawamon gates, you will feel as if you had time-traveled. The scenery where the modern buildings around meet the old-fashioned castle ruins is a photogenic sight unique to Tokyo. Why not take a stroll on a calm weekend to feel Japan's history and nature with all five senses?
