ABOUT
About this spot
Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is a venerable temple founded in the Heian period with a history of more than 1,080 years. Affectionately known as "Narita no Fudo-sama," it bustles with many worshippers praying for protection from misfortune, family safety, and business prosperity. The top highlight is the "Goma" fire ritual, performed every day without fail. The solemn ceremony, with rising flames and the sound of drums echoing, purifies the hearts of visitors. The spacious grounds are dotted with five nationally designated Important Cultural Properties, including the three-story pagoda and Niomon Gate built in the Edo period, so you can also enjoy the beauty of historic architecture. The approximately 800 m Omotesando approach leading from the station to the temple is lined with more than 150 eel restaurants and souvenir shops, creating the atmosphere of an Edo-style temple town. The vast Naritasan Park next door, with flowers through the seasons, makes this a leading sightseeing destination in the Kanto region, ideal for weekend trips with family and friends or a solo refresh.
