ABOUT
About this spot
Located at the westernmost tip of the Boso Peninsula in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, Susaki Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse that has guarded the entrance to Tokyo Bay since it was first lit in 1919. Although compact at about 15 meters tall, its dignified white tower is a nationally registered tangible cultural property and stands out beautifully against the blue sea and sky. This is a hidden scenic spot. Beyond the Uraga Channel stretching out before you lies the Miura Peninsula, and when the weather cooperates you can take in a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji, Izu Oshima, and the Izu Peninsula. The beauty at dusk is exceptional, as the sun sinking into the horizon tints the lighthouse orange and soothes the hearts of visitors. Nearby are a shoreline for tidepooling and Susaki Shrine, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll in the sea breeze. It is a stop we highly recommend, whether for time alone to reflect on a solo trip, a date with someone special, or a family drive.
