About this spot
The Ojiya Textile Workshop (Ojiya Orimono Kobo) in Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture, is a place where you can fully experience Ojiya-chijimi, a nationally designated Important Intangible Cultural Property and UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as Ojiya-tsumugi. Inside, you can watch skilled artisans at work up close, try weaving on a real takahata loom, and enjoy making small items such as coasters from scraps of Ojiya-chijimi fabric. Staff teach beginners carefully, so it is perfect for creating travel memories for both children and adults. The exhibition and sales corner offers a wide selection of kimono and stoles known for their cool feel against the skin, as well as modern-designed Japanese goods, making it ideal for a treat for yourself or a gift for someone special. Why not spend a relaxed weekend with family or friends, touching Japan's beautiful traditional crafts?
