ABOUT
About this spot
Kasugayama Castle was the stronghold of Uesugi Kenshin, renowned as the most formidable warlord of the Sengoku period. Distinguished by a sturdy design that makes clever use of natural defenses, it is one of Japan's finest mountain castle ruins and a nationally designated historic site. Historical remains are scattered across the vast grounds, including the sites of the main and second enclosures and the Bishamon-do hall, where Kenshin is said to have prayed for victory. The view from the main enclosure at the summit is especially superb, with a breathtaking panorama of the Takada Plain, the Sea of Japan, and distant mountains. Imagining the scene Kenshin once surveyed from this very spot, you can't help but feel the romance of history. The walking trails through lush nature are perfect not only for history lovers but also for solo travelers or friends looking for light exercise and a refreshing break. Why not spend a special time here, where nature changes with the seasons and the spirit of the Sengoku era lives on? Because of the slopes, we strongly recommend comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
