ABOUT
About this spot
Located in Murakami City at the northernmost tip of Niigata Prefecture, Sasagawa Nagare is one of Japan's finest scenic areas, stretching along about 11 km of coastline. Strange rocks, sea caves, and reefs carved out over eons by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan stand in rows, and their wild yet beautiful forms are designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument. A cruise on a sightseeing boat is a must when you visit. You can see unique rocks such as "Megane-iwa" (Eyeglasses Rock) and "Kyoryu-iwa" (Dinosaur Rock) up close, which cannot be seen from land, and you will surely be moved by the highly transparent emerald-green sea. Feeding seagulls from the boat is enjoyable for all ages, from children to adults. The area has also been selected as one of Japan's "100 Best Sunsets," and the moment the sun sinking on the horizon turns the sea golden is breathtakingly beautiful. You can drive along the coastline, or in summer enjoy swimming and camping in the highly transparent sea. At the nearby "Michi-no-Eki Sasagawa Nagare (Yuhi Kaikan)" roadside station, you can also enjoy dishes made with the local specialty "Tamamo-jio" salt.
