Covering the signature brands of every sake brewery in Niigata Prefecture, "Ponshukan" is a veritable mecca for sake lovers. The main attraction is the "Kikizake Bandokoro," where you can choose your favorite brands from tasting machines lining an entire wall. For 1,000 yen you receive five coins and a sake cup, and can combine up to five kinds of sake to your liking. There is also a salt tasting corner, offering a way to enjoy sake by bringing out its flavor. The food offerings are also plentiful. The market, stocked with Niigata's fermented foods, delicacies, and sweets, is ideal for souvenir shopping, and at "Bakudan Onigiri-ya," also inside CoCoLo Niigata, you can enjoy the famous "bomb rice ball" made with Koshihikari rice from Minamiuonuma. Being an indoor facility directly connected to Niigata Station, you can drop in casually without worrying about the weather, even for a short break while waiting for your Shinkansen. From a spontaneous solo visit to lively tasting sessions with friends or a partner, it is a recommended place to enjoy Niigata's rich food culture with all five senses.
