ABOUT

About this spot

Located in central Nara Prefecture, Mt. Yoshino has long been loved as Japan's sacred land of cherry blossoms. In spring, the spectacular view known as "Hitome Senbon" ("a thousand trees at a glance") unfolds, and the four areas of Shimo, Naka, Kami, and Oku bloom in sequence from the foot of the mountain to the summit, an overwhelming sight. This is not just a tourist destination: it is registered as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," and historic temples and shrines, including Kinpusen-ji, the head temple of Shugendo, dot the area. The mountain shows a rich face through the seasons, wrapped in blazing autumn foliage, quiet snowy scenery in winter, and hiking amid cool greenery in summer. Along the approach, shops line up offering local specialties such as "kakinoha-zushi" (sushi wrapped in persimmon leaves) and sweets made with "Yoshino kuzu" arrowroot, and enjoying food between strolls is part of the fun. It is recommended for history lovers, families, photography enthusiasts, and solo travelers who want to forget everyday life and refresh.
