ABOUT
About this spot
Enshrined deep within Nara Park, Kasuga Taisha has a history of more than 1,300 years and is the head shrine of about 3,000 Kasuga shrines across Japan. Also a World Heritage Site, the grounds surrounded by primeval forest are filled with a mysterious air. The greatest highlights are the vivid vermilion-lacquered shrine buildings and the approximately 3,000 lanterns that have been donated since ancient times. At the "Mandoro" lantern festivals held at Setsubun and Chugen in particular, all of these lanterns are lit, leading you into a world of profound mystery. The grounds also contain the Manyo Botanical Garden, known as a famous spot for wisteria, where beautiful flowers delight the eye in spring. Wild deer greet you on the approach, and you can enjoy the scenery unique to Nara where nature and history are in harmony. Visiting the auxiliary shrines, such as "Meoto Daikokusha," famous for matchmaking, is also recommended. It is a supreme sacred site to visit at least once, whether for a solo trip to focus the mind or a historical stroll with someone dear.
