ABOUT

About this spot

Daiozaki Lighthouse in Shima City, Mie Prefecture, is one of the scenic spots representing Ise-Shima National Park. It stands on the sheer cliffs of Nakiri, long known as the "town of painters," and its beautiful white form has been loved by many artists. Its greatest feature is that you can actually climb the interior stairs to the observation deck. From the top you get a 360-degree panorama of the Pacific Ocean with its crashing waves and the intricately indented ria coast, and on a clear day you can see as far as Kamishima and the Chita Peninsula. The approach to the lighthouse has a nostalgic atmosphere that retains the look of the Showa era. Shops selling the famous dried fish and restaurants serving fresh local seafood line the way, making a leisurely stroll a pleasure. With superb views to enjoy in the sea breeze, it is a sightseeing spot sure to refresh, whether for a solo trip, a drive with friends, or a family trip.
