ABOUT

About this spot

Ise Jingu is Japan's most prestigious shrine, made up of 125 shrines and sanctuaries centered on Naiku (the Inner Shrine), dedicated to the goddess Amaterasu Omikami, and Geku (the Outer Shrine), dedicated to Toyouke Omikami. The traditional custom is to visit "from Geku to Naiku." First, give thanks at the lush Geku to the deity who protects food and industry, then head to Naiku, where the murmur of the Isuzu River is soothing. Cross the Uji Bridge at the entrance to Naiku and you will be enveloped in a serene, pure atmosphere that makes you forget everyday life. After your visit, a stroll through Oharaimachi and Okage Yokocho right next to Naiku is another great pleasure. While savoring the famous "Akafuku mochi" and "Ise udon," you can fully enjoy the atmosphere of an Edo-period temple town. Recommended for history lovers as well as anyone looking to refresh from daily fatigue, it is a special sacred place worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
