ABOUT
About this spot
Akame 48 Falls in Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, lies at the heart of Muro-Akame-Aoyama Quasi-National Park, a spectacular spot where many waterfalls line a beautiful gorge. "Forty-eight" simply means "many," and in reality waterfalls large and small continue for about 4 km. The area is said to have once been a training ground for Iga ninja, and today "ninja training experience" activities are popular. The trail is relatively well maintained, and the hiking course, about 1.5 hours one way (about 3 hours round trip), passes the "Five Akame Falls," which are especially impressive. Its charm lies in the rich variety of expressions through the seasons: fresh green in spring, cool waterside retreats in summer, fiery autumn leaves, and in winter the magical "frozen waterfalls." It is perfect for a weekend trip to escape the bustle of the city and refresh among the sound of clear water and negative ions. It suits a wide range of travelers, from family outdoor trips and photo outings with friends to quiet solo hikes.
