ABOUT

About this spot

Located right next to Naiku of Ise Grand Shrine, "Okage Yokocho" is a sightseeing spot recreating the townscape of the Edo to Meiji periods, when pilgrimages to Ise bustled. Within its roughly 4,000 tsubo grounds, the charms of Mie are condensed, from the tastes of long-established shops to the latest sweets. The highlight of your stroll is, above all, "eating as you walk." A variety of gourmet treats captivates visitors, including freshly made mochi at the famous Akafuku Honten, Ise udon with a unique, soft texture, Matsusaka beef croquettes, and local craft beer. Searching for souvenirs found only here is also part of the fun, including a maneki-neko specialty shop and a general store dealing in Ise cotton. Facilities for touching history and culture are also plentiful, including seasonal events and "Okageza Shinwa-no-Yakata," where you can experience the world of Japanese mythology. From families to couples and solo travelers, it is a classic spot for Ise sightseeing that can be enjoyed all day by all generations.
