ABOUT

About this spot

Omaezaki Lighthouse is known as the symbol of Omaezaki, the southernmost point of Shizuoka Prefecture. Built in 1874 to a design by the British engineer Brunton, it is designated a nationally Important Cultural Property for its high historical value. The observation deck at the top of the spiral staircase offers an unobstructed 360-degree panorama. The clear blue Pacific spreads before you, and the horizon, which makes you feel the curvature of the Earth, moves everyone. On a clear day you can see the Izu Peninsula, Mt. Fuji, and even the Southern Alps. Walking paths are laid out around the lighthouse, and a stroll in the sea breeze is perfect for a change of pace. At dusk in particular it is a popular romantic sunset spot where the sky and sea turn golden. Whether for solo refreshment or a drive with friends and family, why not visit to enjoy the beauty of this historic white lighthouse and its superb views?
