ABOUT

About this spot

Hatsushima, about 30 minutes by high-speed boat from Atami, is home to Hatsushima Lighthouse, standing at the island's highest point and known as one of only 16 "climbable lighthouses" in Japan. Installed in the 34th year of Showa and renovated in the 19th year of Heisei, it is distinguished by a rare structure with a spiral staircase on the outside. The observation deck at the top of the spiral staircase offers an unobstructed 360-degree panorama. Highly transparent Sagami Bay lies below, and on a clear day you can see the majestic Mt. Fuji, the Izu Peninsula, the Hakone mountains, and even the Izu Islands including Oshima. At the foot of the lighthouse is also an exhibition hall where you can learn about how lighthouses work and their history. The surrounding area is developed as Hatsushima Park, where you can spend relaxed island time admiring seasonal flowers. It is a perfect place for a family adventure, a date with someone special, or a solo trip to refresh the heart. Enjoy the best view that makes you forget daily life in the pleasant sea breeze.
