ABOUT
About this spot
Izu Shaboten Zoo, located right next to Mt. Omuro in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a tourist spot rare even in Japan that combines a zoo and a botanical garden. Its greatest feature is how astonishingly close you get to the animals! Squirrel monkeys and peacocks roam freely in the park, so just walking around gives you the thrill of meeting them. The "original Capybara open-air bath," held from winter to spring, is a popular event where the sight of capybaras relaxing in their bath is sure to soothe you. In the botanical area, about 1,500 kinds of cacti and succulents collected from around the world are displayed in a pyramid-shaped greenhouse. At the "Shaboten Picking Workshop," you can also make a planting of your favorite cacti and take it home, making it perfect for creating travel memories. Against the panoramic backdrop of Mt. Omuro, it is a place where families, couples on dates, and friends traveling together can spend a luxurious time in touch with nature and animals. Please visit with a camera in hand.
