ABOUT
About this spot
Morioka Handicraft Village is a hands-on facility that concentrates Iwate's world-class "craftsmen's skills" in one area. More than 10 types of workshops line the grounds, and the biggest appeal is being able to watch the making of traditional crafts such as Nambu ironware, dyeing, pottery, and bamboo work up close. There is also a rich lineup of things you can actually try, not just watch. Especially popular are making Morioka's famous "Morioka reimen" cold noodles from scratch and hand-baking aromatic "Nambu senbei" crackers in just a few minutes. Activities are available that both adults and children can lose themselves in. The spacious grounds also include relocated "Nambu magariya" thatched-roof houses from the Edo period, where you can spend a relaxing time in a somewhat nostalgic landscape. A souvenir corner with famous sweets and crafts from all over Iwate is also well stocked, making this a perfect spot for family trips, making memories with friends, or a holiday of quietly touching culture on your own. Be sure to come and experience the charm of Iwate with all five senses.
