ABOUT
About this spot
Tono Furusato Village is a hands-on facility alive with history and culture, spread over about 8.8 hectares of land where thatched-roof "Nambu magariya" farmhouses from the Edo period to the mid-Meiji period have been relocated and preserved. A stream runs through the village and a waterwheel turns, creating a landscape of original Japan that is widely known as a filming location for NHK historical dramas and more. Here, village guides called "Maburitto" tell you folk tales passed down in Tono and share seasonal traditional events and the wisdom of self-sufficiency. A variety of experience programs such as plant dyeing, bamboo craft, and soba making are also available, offering a time that both adults and children can lose themselves in. The expressions of the four seasons are all spectacular: cherry blossoms in spring, lush green in summer, vivid autumn foliage, and snowy scenery wrapped in silence in winter. Why not leave the bustle of the city behind and spend a relaxing time with loved ones and friends in the soothing satoyama landscape?
