ABOUT
About this spot
Located on a small hill in Hanamaki, the Kenji Miyazawa Memorial Museum is a place where you can touch the essence of Kenji Miyazawa, who had many faces as a writer, educator, and agricultural advisor. Inside, exhibits are divided into five fields that were the sources of Kenji's creativity: "science," "art," "the universe," "religion," and "agriculture." Precious materials that fans will love are on display, including handwritten manuscripts of famous works, his beloved cello, and a model of the "Polano Square" he designed himself. There are also exhibits using video and sound, so both adults and children can intuitively enjoy Kenji's world. The surroundings are rich with nature that seems to come straight out of Kenji's works, and there are walking paths that make you feel lost in a fairy tale. We recommend having lunch at the adjacent "Yamaneko-ken" and visiting the nearby "Kenji Miyazawa Fairy Tale Village" as well. Whether you quietly immerse yourself in Kenji's thoughts alone, or walk with family and friends talking about the settings of his stories, a heartwarming cultural experience awaits.
