ABOUT
About this spot
Appi Kogen Ski Resort, in Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture, is one of Japan's finest snow resorts, highly acclaimed at home and abroad for its sheer scale and superb snow quality. Its signature feature is the dry, silky "aspirin snow." Spread across Mt. Maemori (1,304 m) and Mt. Nishimori (1,328 m), the vast terrain has 21 courses in all, including a longest run of 5.5 km, so beginners through experts never get bored. The slopes fan out in a sweeping layout, and the open panoramic views are spectacular. After skiing, the classic way to unwind is a soak in the hotel's open-air hot spring, one of the largest in Tohoku. With accommodations ranging from luxury hotels to casual inns, it suits trips with friends or couples as well as family vacations with children. In the green season too, not just winter, you can enjoy gondola sightseeing, athletic courses and ranch experiences, making it a complex resort where you can savor rich nature all year round. It is a recommended spot for anyone who wants to forget the bustle of the city and enjoy a luxurious time.
