ABOUT
About this spot
Jodogahama, in Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, is a superb scenic spot representing the Sanriku Coast. It is said to have been named about 300 years ago when a monk exclaimed that it was "just like the Pure Land of Paradise," and is characterized by its unique landscape of sharply pointed white rhyolite rocks. Because the waves are very calm, it is also popular as a swimming beach in summer and has been selected as a Special Selection among the "100 Best Pleasant Bathing Beaches." The sea is exceptionally clear, and the Sappa-bune boat cruise through the "Blue Cave" lets you experience a fantastical cobalt blue world up close, making it especially recommended for friends and couples. With well-maintained walking paths, you can stroll leisurely feeling the sea breeze, which is also perfect when you want to refresh on a solo trip. For families, the learning exhibits at the Jodogahama Visitor Center and the local specialty "Iso Ramen" at the rest house are another pleasure. This place, which changes its look moment by moment with the season and time of day, gives new inspiration with each visit.
