ABOUT

About this spot

Shuri Castle, where you can feel the history and culture of the Ryukyu Kingdom on your skin, is a symbolic spot that you must visit on a trip to Okinawa. The unique architectural style that blends Chinese and Japanese castle-building cultures is a highlight, and the decorations in vivid vermilion are overwhelmingly beautiful against the blue tropical sky. Currently, steps are being taken toward the restoration of the main hall after the 2019 fire, and the "visible reconstruction," in which restoration work can be viewed up close, is drawing great attention. The exhibits, which let you learn about the craftsmen's skills and the restoration process, are a precious experience that can be seen only now. Within the vast park are World Heritage sites such as Shureimon Gate and Sonohyan-utaki Ishimon Gate, and strolling along the cobbled paths, you can trace the remnants of the kingdom. Located on high ground, it is also popular as a viewpoint with a panoramic view of Naha city. Whether traveling with friends, family, or on a solo historical stroll, it is a place where you can feel the soul of Okinawa in any style.
