ABOUT

About this spot

The Kerama Islands are an archipelago of more than twenty islands, large and small, located about 40 km west of Naha. The greatest appeal of this area, designated a national park in 2014, is its beautiful sea, known as "Kerama Blue," with some of the best clarity in the world. On the main islands of Zamami and Tokashiki, you can encounter colorful coral reefs and tropical fish after swimming just a short distance from the beach, and they have captivated people worldwide as meccas for snorkeling and diving. They are also famous as habitats of sea turtles, and with luck you may have the rare experience of swimming alongside them. In winter (January to March), humpback whales visit to breed and raise their young, allowing for thrilling whale watching. On the islands there are also many lush green mountains and observation decks with sweeping views, so there are plenty of ways to enjoy beyond the sea, such as trekking and watching the sunset. From an active trip with friends to quiet time alone with nature, it is a paradise that gently embraces every visitor.
