ABOUT
About this spot
Ishigaki Island, about 400 km further southwest of Okinawa's main island, is the gateway to the Yaeyama Islands. The top attraction is Kabira Bay, which earned three stars in a world-renowned guidebook. The contrast between the emerald-green sea, whose color changes with the tides, and the scattered green islands is a breathtaking view to see at least once. For those who want to be active, snorkeling and diving are recommended. In the highly transparent sea, you may have a chance to meet manta rays and colorful tropical fish. At night, a sky full of stars certified as Japan's first "Dark Sky Reserve" spreads out, offering a luxurious night where 84 of the 88 constellations can be seen. Food is a must too. Enjoy the island's bounty, such as the melt-in-your-mouth branded beef "Ishigaki beef" and the locally loved "Yaeyama soba." In the city, the shopping street "Euglena Mall" lined with souvenir shops makes shopping plentiful too. The island warmly welcomes every travel style, whether a family trip, a lively trip with friends, or a solo trip as a reward for yourself. Why not leave the bustle of the city and refresh while feeling the pleasant island breeze?
