ABOUT
About this spot
Toki no Mori Park is a must-see on any trip to Sado Island. It is known as a base for the protection and breeding of the crested ibis (toki), a Special Natural Monument that once disappeared from Japan's skies. The park has the "Toki Exhibition Hall," where you can learn in detail about the bird's ecology and history, and the "Toki Fureai Plaza," where you can actually see crested ibises up close. In the Toki Fureai Plaza in particular, the cage environment is recreated to be close to nature, and with luck you may see ibises searching for food or bathing from just a few meters away. The wings, in a beautiful pale pink known as "tokiiro," are well worth seeing. The calm atmosphere of the park is ideal for families as well as solo travelers who want to feel nature at a relaxed pace. Why not enjoy a soothing time watching the graceful ibises while appreciating Sado's rich nature and the history of conservation efforts? Original ibis-themed sweets and souvenirs sold at the shop are also popular.
