ABOUT

About this spot

Amami Oshima, located south of Kagoshima Prefecture, is a beautiful island with untouched nature, also called the "Galapagos of the Orient." It was registered as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2021, and the richness and rarity of its ecosystem are recognized worldwide. When you visit Amami Oshima, first enjoy the crystal-blue sea known as "Amami Blue." At Domori Beach and Sakibaru Beach, you can enjoy the contrast of breathtakingly beautiful sand and sea. A canoe experience in Japan's largest-class virgin mangrove forest, paddling through maze-like waterways with a sense of adventure, is a must-do activity for families and friends. Its unique culture and cuisine are also great attractions, from traditional crafts such as Oshima tsumugi silk to the signature dish "keihan" (chicken rice soup). At night, night tours where you can meet endemic species such as the Amami rabbit are popular too. Whether spending quiet time alone or playing actively with friends or family, surrender yourself to the soul-cleansing scenery and relaxed island time for a perfect refresh.
