ABOUT
About this spot
Tanegashima, in the south of Kagoshima Prefecture, is home to Tanegashima Space Center at its southern tip, Japan's largest rocket launch site with a total area of about 9.7 million square meters. Its beautiful coastal location has earned it the name "the most beautiful rocket launch site in the world," and it is a scenic spot Japan can be proud of, where an emerald-green sea and cutting-edge science and technology meet. The "Space Science and Technology Museum" on the grounds has rich exhibits for adults and children alike, including full-size rocket models, satellite displays and a corner introducing life in space. Unique souvenirs such as space food are also popular. On the reservation-only facility guided tour, you can get up close to the "Large Rocket Assembly Building," which houses huge rockets, and the "Osaki Launch Pad" with a guide's commentary, and the sheer scale is sure to overwhelm you. Whether encouraging your children's curiosity on a family trip or reflecting on the grand history of space on a solo trip, please experience a moving moment found only here, where the blue sky and sea and the road to space intersect.
