ABOUT
About this spot
Mt. Kaimondake in Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, is one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains, known as "Satsuma Fuji" for its beautifully symmetrical conical shape. At 924 meters it is a height beginners can attempt, yet as an isolated peak with nothing blocking the view, the summit offers a full 360-degree panorama. The view of the deep blue East China Sea below, Yakushima and the Mishima islands on clear days, and the Kirishima mountain range further north is truly spectacular. The trail spirals around the mountain, so another charm is that the scenery changes depending on the direction you climb. After working up a sweat in nature, a recommended way to spend your time is to soak away the fatigue of the climb with the famous "sand baths" at nearby Ibusuki Onsen. It is a perfect spot for making memories with friends or family, or for those who want to face nature quietly alone. Come feel this scenery, symbol of Kagoshima, for yourself.
