ABOUT

About this spot

Sogi Falls in Isa City, northern Kagoshima Prefecture, is praised as the "Niagara of the East" for its overwhelming scale and captivates visitors as a spectacular spot. Water spraying as it flows over a wide expanse of Senjojiki rock, 210 meters wide and 12 meters high, directly conveys the power of nature. The area around the falls has been developed as a nature-rich park, and from the observation deck you can enjoy a powerful panorama. In spring beautiful cherry blossoms, and in autumn vivid foliage, color the falls, and illumination events are sometimes held at night. Downstream, the "Remains of the Former Sogi Power Station," which appear only during the summer low-water season, give brick buildings the look of an old castle in medieval Europe. The park has souvenir shops selling local specialties and restaurants, making it one of Kagoshima's top sightseeing spots, where you can spend leisurely time whether on a family drive, a trip with friends, or a solo refresh.
