ABOUT

About this spot

Tosenkyo in Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, is a sightseeing spot known as the birthplace of the "rotating somen noodle flowing," rare even across Japan. Its greatest feature is the use of about 100,000 tons per day of spring water, selected as one of the Ministry of the Environment's "100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters of the Heisei Era." Clear water kept at about 13 degrees all year flows vigorously over a circular table. Enjoying chilled somen with the sweet dipping sauce typical of Kagoshima is a moment of pure bliss. The gorge is very cool even in summer, and surrounded by abundant greenery, you can eat while bathing in negative ions. Besides somen, there are rich set meals with grilled salt trout, called the queen of river fish, flavorful "koikoku" (carp miso soup), and rice balls, satisfying both adults and children. It is ideal for lively family lunches, solo trips to be soothed by nature, and girls' trips to enjoy photogenic scenery. Combine it with sightseeing in Ibusuki Onsen and be sure to experience Kagoshima's proud culture of cool.
