ABOUT

About this spot

Located in southern Yamanashi Prefecture, Minobusan Kuonji was founded in the Kamakura period by the priest Nichiren and is the head temple of the Nichiren sect. The vast grounds are lined with buildings including the main hall and a five-story pagoda, and stepping inside you are enveloped in a solemn, tranquil atmosphere. A major feature of the temple is Bodaitei, a steep stone staircase of 287 steps leading from the main gate to the main hall. It is said that those who climb it to the top attain enlightenment, so if you are confident in your stamina, by all means take on the challenge. For those who are concerned about their stamina, elevators and an inclined elevator are also available. In spring, the weeping cherry trees bloom, creating a dreamlike landscape. After visiting the temple, we recommend taking the ropeway up to the summit of Mt. Minobu at 1,153 meters. On a clear day you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, and Suruga Bay. Whether you are on a solo journey of self-discovery, a historical stroll with family or friends, or a tour of power spots, this sacred site soothes the hearts of all generations.
