ABOUT

About this spot

Located in the vast Aokigahara Forest at the foot of Mount Fuji, Fugaku Wind Cave is a lava cave designated a National Natural Monument. It is 201 meters long and up to 8.7 meters high, and because it is a horizontal cave, the footing is relatively stable, so people from children to the elderly can visit with peace of mind. Stepping into the cave, the noise of the outside world fades and you are enveloped in cool silence. The average annual temperature is about 3 degrees. As a "natural refrigerator" where ice does not melt even in summer, it was actually used in the past to store silkworm eggs and seeds. Inside, you can see traces of dynamic volcanic activity such as mysterious "ice columns," "lava shelves," and "ropy lava" created by lava flows. Nature guide tours and hiking courses through the Aokigahara Forest to nearby Narusawa Ice Cave are also popular. It is a power spot ideal for weekend family trips, drives with friends, or when you want to quietly feel the energy of nature alone.
