ABOUT
About this spot
Located halfway up Mt. Arakura, this park is a world-famous photo spot where you can frame Mt. Fuji and the red five-story pagoda, Chureito, in a single shot. It has even appeared on the cover of the Michelin Green Guide Japon, and as a true "symbol of Japan," it draws many visitors from Japan and overseas. A flight of 398 steps, the Sakuya-hime Stairs, leads up to the observation deck with the superb view. The climb is a bit strenuous, but the panorama that opens up before you at the top is so beautiful that you will forget your fatigue. A sloped path is also available alongside the stairs, so you can climb at your own pace. In spring the Somei-Yoshino cherry trees bloom, in autumn the leaves turn a brilliant red, and in winter you can enjoy the contrast between a snow-capped Mt. Fuji and the vermilion pagoda. Perfect for solo photography trips or hikes with friends and family, it is a classic spot not to be missed when sightseeing in Yamanashi.
