ABOUT
About this spot
Located in northern Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Shosenkyo is called Japan's most beautiful gorge and is designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, one of Yamanashi's top attractions. In the gorge, formed by long years of crustal movement and erosion, strange rocks and boulders, including the main peak "Kakuenpo," line up, letting you feel nature on an overwhelming scale up close. The promenade of about 6 km is well maintained, and in a one to two-hour stroll you can see highlights such as "Senga Falls." The autumn foliage season is especially spectacular, and many people come for the contrast between the gorge dyed in vivid red and yellow and the white rock surfaces. After your stroll, take the ropeway straight up to Panorama-dai, where a grand panorama of Mount Fuji and the Southern Alps spreads out. Nearby are many restaurants serving the local specialty "hoto" noodles and souvenir shops themed on the area's reputation as the birthplace of crystal. It is a spot you can enjoy to the fullest with family, friends, or on a solo trip.
