ABOUT
About this spot
"Ai no Yakata" in Aizumi Town, Tokushima Prefecture, is a museum steeped in history, housed in the former residence of the Okumura family, who were prominent indigo merchants. Its exhibition rooms, which offer an in-depth look at the history of "Awa-ai," the indigo that supported Tokushima's development, and the skills of its craftsmen, will stir the intellectual curiosity of adults. The biggest draw is the "indigo dyeing experience" using real dye. You can dye handkerchiefs, scarves, and more a vivid "Japan Blue" with your own hands. Staff give careful instruction, so beginners and families can enjoy it with confidence. Another nice point is that you can take your finished work home the same day. The spacious grounds are lined with an imposing residence and storehouses once used to store indigo, making it a very attractive photo spot. Immerse yourself in history on a solo trip, or enjoy the experience with friends. Spend a fulfilling time deeply connecting with Tokushima's unique traditional culture.
