ABOUT
About this spot
Located close to Tokushima Station, Tokushima Castle is the site of the residence of the Hachisuka clan, who once ruled the 250,000-koku Awa domain. Today it is maintained as "Tokushima Central Park," loved by a wide range of visitors, from history fans to local residents looking for a place to relax. The greatest highlight is the "Former Tokushima Castle Omote-goten Garden," also a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty. This garden, with two faces of a dry landscape garden and a hill-and-pond strolling garden, is characterized by powerful stonework that lavishly uses Awa blue stone (chlorite schist), conveying the dignity of its time. The adjoining "Tokushima Castle Museum" displays valuable materials connected to the Hachisuka clan and a model of Tokushima Castle, letting you learn deeply about the region's past. The park is also blessed with abundant nature, and the cherry blossoms in spring are especially stunning. The Somei Yoshino trees in full bloom against the castle's stone walls are a sure-fire photogenic view. Walking paths are also maintained, so it is ideal for a quiet solo walk through history, or a stroll with family and friends feeling the changing seasons. As the symbol of the castle town of Tokushima, it is a spot we hope you will visit at least once.
