ABOUT

About this spot

Quietly spanning the deep Iya Valley in Tokushima Prefecture, the Iya Vine Bridge is a thrilling tourist spot known as one of Japan's Three Strange Bridges. Woven from about 6 tons of shirakuchi-kazura vines, the bridge is 45 meters long and 14 meters above the river. When you actually cross it, the gaps between the underfoot planks are wide and the bridge sways and creaks with each step, giving you legs-trembling tension. But the view from there of the clear Iya River and the rich greenery around is truly spectacular. In particular, during the fresh green season and when the mountains blaze with autumn color, nature's colors enhance the bridge's charm even more. This area, which also has the legend of the fugitive Heike clan, has a mystical atmosphere that evokes the romance of history. Nearby are highlights such as Biwa Falls, where you can stroll while soaking up negative ions. It is a hidden-gem spot representing Tokushima, recommended for testing your nerve with friends, making family memories, or refreshing away from daily life. The bridge is also illuminated at night, letting you enjoy a fantastical look different from the daytime.
