ABOUT
About this spot
Located in the remote Oku-Iya area in the deepest part of Tokushima Prefecture, the Oku-Iya Double Vine Bridges are perfect for anyone who wants to completely forget the city bustle and refresh. The bridges, woven from shirakuchi vines, stand side by side as the "Male Bridge (Obashi)" and the "Female Bridge (Mebashi)" and are also called the husband-and-wife bridges. When crossing, you can see the stream below through the gaps under your feet, and the bridge sways with each step for a thrilling experience. Another major attraction of this spot is the human-powered ropeway "Yaen." Riding in a small cabin and pulling the rope yourself to cross the river is a rare experience even in Japan. Surrounded by untouched primeval forest, the area offers breathtaking scenery in every season: fresh greenery in spring, clear streams in summer, and vivid autumn leaves in fall. The route there goes through very deep mountain roads, but that makes the feeling of arriving all the more moving. Why not spend a special time feeling the power of nature and the mystery of history, whether making family memories or enjoying a quiet solo trip?
