ABOUT

About this spot

Located in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, Takeda Castle Ruins sits atop the 353.7-meter Kojoyama Mountain and is a rare example of fully surviving stone wall remains in Japan. Because its shape resembles a crouching tiger, it is also called "Torafusu-jo" (Crouching Tiger Castle). The greatest attraction is the "sea of clouds" that forms in the early morning from autumn to winter. The fantastical sight of the castle ruins wrapped in mist and appearing to float above the clouds is truly the "Castle in the Sky." It is perfect for those who want a refreshing weekend, photography enthusiasts and anyone who loves the romance of history. The path up to the castle is also popular as a hiking course, letting you enjoy moderate exercise on the way to the summit. The 360-degree panoramic view from the top is spectacular, taking in the castle town and surrounding mountains. When you visit, be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes and, for early mornings, warm clothing.
