ABOUT

About this spot

Kaiyukan is one of the largest aquariums in the world, located in Tempozan, Osaka. The entire building is based on the concepts of the "Pacific Ring of Fire" and the "Pacific Rim Life Zone," and its distinctive layout takes you down a spiral corridor from the 8th floor as if descending into the deep sea. The star attraction is the whale shark swimming in the huge "Pacific Ocean" tank, which is 9 m deep and holds 5,400 tons of water. Its overwhelming scale captivates visitors young and old. The aquarium is full of creative exhibits, including the "New Experience Area" where you can get up close to seals, and the enchanting "Jellyfish Galaxy." After 5:00 p.m., the aquarium transforms into "Night Kaiyukan," with dimmed lights and music creating a mystical deep blue world. A signature sightseeing spot of Osaka, it is ideal for ending a date or for adults who want a quiet, soothing stroll.
