ABOUT
About this spot
Toyokawa Inari, in Toyokawa, Aichi Prefecture, is formally called Myogonji, a Soto Zen temple. Founded in the Muromachi period, it is a venerable temple that drew the devotion of renowned warlords such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Although it has torii gates like a Shinto shrine, it enshrines the Buddhist deity Dakini-shinten, and is known as a power spot for business prosperity and family safety. Its greatest attraction is Reiko-zuka, beyond the Oku-no-in. About 1,000 stone fox statues of all sizes, dedicated in thanks for answered prayers, stand in rows, and the mystical, overwhelming scene is a hit on social media too. Another pleasure of visiting is grazing on inari sushi in the temple town in front of the gate. You can savor inari sushi with different seasonings and fillings at each shop. Whether for a weekend historical stroll, a family drive, or a solo trip, it is a spot where you can have a truly fulfilling time. Seasonal festivals and illumination events are also held, so there is something new to discover no matter how many times you visit.
