ABOUT

About this spot

Nagoya Castle is a leading historical spot in Nagoya. The biggest point of interest is the "Honmaru Palace," completed and opened to the public in 2018. This space, faithfully recreated with the advanced architectural techniques of the Edo period, is decorated with breathtakingly gorgeous gold-leaf wall paintings and carvings, letting you experience up close the masterpiece of an early modern castle palace. The spacious grounds are dotted with sights that history lovers will love, such as the Southwest Corner Turret, designated an Important Cultural Property, and the sturdy stone walls said to have been built by Kato Kiyomasa. In spring, about 1,000 cherry trees bloom, and the nighttime illumination is also very romantic. Within the castle, the "Nagoya Omotenashi Busho-tai" also give regular martial demonstrations, enjoyed by everyone from children to seniors. Enjoying Nagoya cuisine at nearby "Kinshachi Yokocho" is also recommended. Whether strolling slowly alone or immersing yourself in historical romance with family or friends, it is an essential sight of Nagoya sightseeing.
