ABOUT

About this spot

Saitama Children's Zoo, in Higashimatsuyama, Saitama Prefecture, is a zoo whose appeal lies in its vast grounds that make full use of the natural landscape of the Hiki Hills. About 140 species of animals live freely in the park, including koalas, red pandas, and quokkas, which are rare in Japan. Its greatest feature is the abundance of hands-on activities that let you feel animals up close. Pony rides, cow milking, and the guinea pig petting corner will surely soothe children and adults alike. At the winter tradition "Capybara Open-Air Bath," you can watch capybaras soaking happily in the tub from a distance perfect for social media photos. There are also large athletic play structures, a dinosaur corner, and a splash pond popular in summer, so families can play all day long. The nature-filled walking paths are also ideal for dates or refreshing solo trips. The park is very large, so we recommend wearing clothing and shoes that are easy to move in.
