ABOUT
About this spot
The Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, is one of the world's largest flood control facilities, built with the best of Japan's civil engineering technology. It takes in water from swollen rivers underground and safely releases it into the Edo River. The 59 giant concrete pillars standing in the underground space look just like an "Underground Temple." It is also a very popular filming location for movies and TV dramas, and continues to captivate many people. On the guided tours, you can walk through this huge pressure-adjusting tank, normally off-limits, with a guide's commentary. As soon as you step inside, an overwhelming silence and sense of scale spread through the cool air, offering a mysterious experience that makes you forget everyday life. A wide variety of courses is offered, from a plan for casually strolling the temple to a thrilling plan that peers into a 70-meter-deep giant vertical shaft. We also recommend raising your disaster-prevention awareness while photographing views you can see nowhere else. It is a spot that stimulates curiosity and wonder for adults and children alike. It is popular, so be sure to book early!
