ABOUT

About this spot

The Metasequoia Avenue in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, is a spectacular scene in which about 500 metasequoia trees line a straight road of about 2.4 km leading to Makino Kogen. Selected as one of the "New 100 Street Trees of Japan," with the Nosaka mountain range in the distance, it looks like a scene from a movie that doesn't feel like Japan. Its greatest appeal is the seasonal change that offers completely different expressions depending on when you visit: fresh "new greenery" in May, "deep green" shining in the summer sun, "golden autumn leaves" from late November to early December, and "snow-covered" winter. It captivates many tourists and photographers throughout the year. At the entrance of the tree-lined road is the agricultural park "Makino Pick-Land," where you can enjoy seasonal fruit picking and gelato made with local ingredients. It is a healing spot recommended for any occasion, whether a drive with friends, a date with a loved one, or a solo trip to feel nature at leisure. Enjoy the luxurious time of taking photos from the sidewalk or watching the trees pass by from the car window.
